Geranium Essential Oil: For When Your Heart Needs a Soft Reset
My first experience with geranium oil was when I was making a diffuser blend which was supposed to be some kind of Anthropologie candle dupe (it’s great btw), but I was QUITE taken aback by it’s strong floral fragrance. I much prefer earthy, woodsy, tree oils like black spruce, fir, and cedarwood. But if I’ve learned anything about plant oils and the way they communicate with us it’s this: the oils that you have the biggest aversions to are the ones your body actually need the most.
Boy is that truem and I only started to notice that when I began using it in my spiritual practices.
Geranium essential oil is so much more than a sweet floral scent in a bottle. It’s a powerful, heart-centered ally—one that wraps you in compassion, gently brings buried emotions to the surface, and helps you release what no longer serves you. If you're looking for emotional healing, spiritual alignment, or just a little more grace during the ups and downs of life, Geranium is one of the best oils you can reach for.
Why I Reach for Geranium (and You Might Want To, Too)
On a spiritual level, Geranium is a healer. It’s deeply connected to the Heart Chakra—that space where we hold love, grief, forgiveness, and emotional truth. It helps open and balance this energy center, allowing you to access compassion, self-love, and harmony with a soft yet steady touch. If you're doing any kind of spiritual work around relationships, self-worth, or emotional release, this oil belongs in your toolkit.
One of the things I love most? Geranium has this rare quality of being grounding and uplifting at the same time. It helps you feel rooted and hopeful—centered and emotionally elevated. It's like a spiritual deep breath for your nervous system.
Practical Benefits You Can Feel
Beyond the spiritual stuff (which, let’s be real, is reason enough), Geranium offers some really grounding practical benefits too:
Balances hormones – Great during emotional or physical transitions like PMS or menopause.
Reduces stress & nerves – A few deep inhales can calm frazzled nerves.
Supports clear thinking – When you’re emotionally overwhelmed, Geranium helps reset your focus.
Soothes skin – It’s been used in herbal remedies for centuries to calm inflammation and support skin health.
Freshens the air – Use it in a spray or diffuser to bring a rosy, peaceful energy to your home or sacred space.
Magical & Folk Uses: A Little History
Geranium has some seriously rich roots in traditional medicine, magic, and folklore:
Folk Magic: Red geraniums were planted by doors and windows in Europe to keep out negative spirits and energy.
Victorian Symbolism: In the language of flowers, rose geraniums stood for comfort, affection, and friendship.
Love & Attraction: Often used in charm bags and ritual baths to attract love and strengthen emotional bonds.
Herbal Medicine: Used for its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, especially to soothe wounds and balance hormones.
Even now, in aromatherapy, it's treasured for its ability to support emotional healing and feminine energy—making it a go-to oil for emotional resilience and grace.
Heart-Healing Ritual: Self-Love & Forgiveness Bath Soak
You KNOW I love my baths and no bath is complete without a few essential oils that I’m needing that day. When I’m feeling low, on my moon, or need to tap into my emotions (which I’m always supressing), Geranium is my go-to on both a physical and energetic level. Here’s a simple but powerful ritual bath designed to help you soften, release, and reconnect with your own heart.
You’ll Need:
1 cup Epsom salts (energy clearing + muscle relaxation)
½ cup baking soda (skin softening + detoxifying)
2 tbsp carrier oil (jojoba, sweet almond, or coconut)
5 drops Geranium (emotional healing, heart opening)
3 drops Ylang Ylang (self-love, feminine energy, joy)
2 drops Frankincense (grounding, spiritual clarity)
Optional: 1 tbsp dried rose petals or lavender buds for beauty and heart-centered energy
How to Make It:
Mix the Epsom salts and baking soda in a bowl.
Blend your essential oils into the carrier oil in a separate bowl.
Combine everything and stir well. Add your flowers last if using.
Store in a sealed glass jar until you're ready to use.
How to Use:
Add about ½–1 cup to a warm bath. As you soak, place your hands over your heart and breathe deeply. Repeat a simple affirmation like:
“I forgive myself. I am worthy of love. I open my heart to healing.”
Soak for at least 20 minutes. Let the water, oils, and your intention do the work.
