The Pisces Full Moon + Lunar Eclipse: Release, Surrender + Trusting What You Can't Yet See
There are full moons that feel like an exhale.
+ then there are full moons that feel like someone opened the floodgates + suddenly you're looking at a feeling, realization, relationship, habit, or version of yourself that you have somehow managed to avoid for the last six months.
It can be a jump scare!
This Pisces full moon lunar eclipse feels much more like the second one, but don’t be concerned! I’ll give you all of the tips and information you need to make this a smooth, meaningful, + productive full moon.
On August 28, 2026 at approximately 12:18am est, the moon reaches fullness in Pisces while passing through Earth's shadow, creating a deep partial lunar eclipse. The partial eclipse begins the evening of August 27 in est+ is visible across much of the Americas, Europe, + Africa.
Astrologically, this is a particularly potent full moon because Pisces is the final sign of the zodiac. There is already an inherent symbolism of completion, surrender, endings, + preparing to begin again.
+ because this eclipse occurs with the sun in Virgo and the moon in Pisces, we're being asked to find a balance between two different kinds of wisdom:
Virgo asks, "What needs to be changed?"
Pisces asks, "What are you ready to release?"
I mean… they ARE sister signs after all.
This isn't necessarily about fixing your life, it may be about finally accepting what you cannot fix.
The Sturgeon Moon: History + Context
August's Full Moon is traditionally known as the Sturgeon Moon, a name associated with the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain, where lake sturgeon were once particularly abundant + could be readily caught during this part of the year. I looove the symbolism of the sturgeon for this full moon.
Sturgeon are ancient fish, their lineage stretches back roughly 136 million years (yeah!), + they're often described as "living fossils." They have survived enormous changes over an almost incomprehensible amount of time.
So while we don't need to pretend that the sturgeon somehow predicted the spiritual meaning of this eclipse, I think there’s still some important symbolism here.
✨What has survived?
✨What have you carried for a very long time?
✨What wisdom did you gain from surviving it?
✨Does everything that helped you survive still need to come with you?
Sometimes the things we are most proud of surviving become the things we have the hardest time releasing.
Why a Lunar Eclipse Hits Different
Astronomically, a lunar eclipse happens when the Earth moves between the sun + moon, causing the moon to pass through Earth's shadow. Because this can only happen during a full moon, a lunar eclipse is basically a full moon with a bit of celestial drama.
Eclipses are often viewed as intensified turning points.
I like to think of them less as cosmic events that are going to randomly blow up your life + more as accelerators. Hear me out!
Something that has already been developing beneath the surface may suddenly become impossible to ignore.
A truth may become clearer, a pattern may finally end, a relationship may change, you may realize you don't actually want what you thought you wanted, or maybe you wake up one morning and realize: "Oh. I'm SO done."
+ that realization can be just as powerful as a dramatic external event.
The Energy of This Pisces Full Moon
Pisces is the final sign of the zodiac.
If Aries represents the beginning of the journey (the baby), Pisces represents the moment when the journey has come full circle (the wise elder).
Pisces is water. It is intuitive, emotional, imaginative, spiritual, compassionate, creative, dreamy, + deeply sensitive to what exists beneath the surface.
It is also a sign associated with surrender.
We're in Virgo season, which asks us to organize, discern, improve, + make things more functional. Virgo wants the spreadsheet. Pisces wants to trust the feeling.
Virgo says: "Let's figure this out."
Pisces says:"What if you don't have to?"
THIS IS THE BALANCE WE NEED!
Virgo asks us to distinguish between what is useful + what isn't.
Pisces asks us to release our attachment to needing everything to make sense.
Together, they give a lesson:
Discernment does not mean controlling everything.
✨You can know what is yours without knowing exactly what happens next.
✨You can have boundaries without closing your heart.
✨You can listen to your intuition without abandoning logic.
✨You can make a practical plan while still leaving room for the universe to surprise you.
That balance is ESPECIALLY important during an eclipse.
What You May Feel Energetically
Pisces energy can make us more emotionally porous.
You may feel more sensitive than usual, pick up on other people's moods more easily, find yourself remembering something you haven't thought about in years, or suddenly understanding why a particular situation has been bothering you.
You may also feel tired, dreamy, nostalgic, emotional, inspired, creative, or unusually introspective.
Some people may feel an increased desire to withdraw from noise and spend more time alone.
Others may feel the exact opposite + suddenly want connection, intimacy, creativity, music, water, nature, or spiritual practice.
+ because this is an eclipse, emotions may feel like they're coming to the surface faster than usual + before you can even begin to comprehend them.
But through all of this remember:
You don't have to act on every feeling simply because you're feeling it.
Pisces teaches us to feel.
Virgo teaches us to discern.
Give yourself space.
The Spiritual Lesson of This Moon
I think the deepest lesson of this Pisces eclipse is learning the difference between surrender + self-abandonment.
Pisces is incredibly compassionate.
It understands other people's pain, feels deeply, wants to help, + wants to merge.
THAT IS DOPE!
But without discernment, sensitivity can become absorption.
✨Compassion can become over-functioning.
✨Service can become self-sacrifice.
✨Intuition can become emotional overwhelm.
✨Boundaries can begin to feel like cruelty when you've been taught that being a good person means being endlessly available.
This eclipse wants you to ponder the following:
✨What emotions are actually yours?
✨What responsibilities are actually yours?
✨What pain have you been carrying that was never yours to carry?
✨Where have you confused being compassionate with being responsible for everyone else's experience?
You do not have to solve someone else's problem to prove that you care.
You do not have to absorb the energy in every room you enter.
And you ABSOLUTELY DO NOT have to abandon yourself in order to be a compassionate person.
This is where Virgo's discernment becomes Pisces's medicine.
The goal is to become more discerning about what you allow your sensitivity to take on.
How to Work With This Energy
This is a full moon of release, reflection, emotional processing, + surrender.
Think less:
"How do I make this happen?"
And more:
"What am I ready to stop carrying?"
Here are five rituals I’ll be doing for this eclipse.
1. Put Your Feet in Water to Release Something
Pisces is a water sign, so working with water is a beautiful way to symbolically connect with this energy.
Take a bath, sit beside the ocean, soak your feet in a bowl of warm water, or even stand in the shower intentionally.
As your feet are submerged, imagine whatever you're ready to release moving out of your body and into the water.
You can say:
"I release what is not mine to carry."
The ritual is simply creating a physical container for the intention to let something go.
2. Wear Your "Dream Color"
Choose a color based on the energy you want to embody during this full moon.
Blue = peace.
Purple = intuition.
White = clarity.
Green = healing.
Pink = softness + compassion.
Wear that color intentionally.
The point isn't that a particular color has magical powers, it's that you're turning something ordinary into a visual cue for the energy you're choosing to embody.
3. Put Amethyst Beside Your Bed
Amethyst has looooong been associated in spiritual traditions with intuition, dreams, protection, + spiritual awareness.
(+ also sobriety + mental health)
Instead of putting it somewhere pretty on an altar where you forget about it, put it beside your bed.
Keep your journal nearby, too!
Before you sleep, ask yourself:
✨"What am I ready to understand?"
Then let yourself sleep without forcing an answer.
In the morning, write down whatever you remember from your dreams, the first feeling you notice, or the first thought that comes to mind.
This is about giving your subconscious somewhere to speak before the rest of the world starts talking to you.
4. Practice Mirror Gazing
This one sounds a little strange I KNOW but trust me. + also it’s less weird when you’re just doing it alone.
Stand in front of a mirror for two minutes and simply look at yourself.
Don't fix your hair or inspect your skin or look for flaws or make adjustments.
Just look into your own eyes. HOW SWEET.
Pisces is associated with dissolving boundaries, + this practice creates a powerful opportunity to witness yourself without immediately trying to change yourself. Kinda feels a bit like inner child work. As you gaze, can you connect with that inner child who looked at themselves in the mirror with nothing but joy?
You don't need to love everything you see or even need to feel particularly spiritual.
Just practice seeing yourself without turning yourself into a project.
5. Give a Bowl of Water a Question
Before bed, fill a glass or small bowl with water + place it beside your bed.
Ask yourself one question you're currently sitting with.
Something like:
✨"What am I ready to release?"
✨"What am I not seeing clearly?"
✨"What deserves my energy now?"
Then go to sleep.
In the morning, before checking your phone, write down the first thought, feeling, image, or dream you remember.
The water isn't magically giving you an answer.
Instead, you're using the ritual to create a container for the question + giving your subconscious some uninterrupted space to respond.
A Pisces Full Moon Diffuser Blend
For this full moon, I want a blend that feels soft, intuitive, grounding, + emotionally spacious.
3 drops White Angelica - for feelings of protection and energetic boundaries
2 drops Frankincense - grounding, contemplative
2 drops Lavender - associated with peace, purification, relaxation, and creating a gentle environment for introspection
Diffuse it while journaling, taking a bath, meditating, or sitting somewhere quiet and letting yourself feel whatever is ready to surface.
The Big Takeaway
This full moon is asking you to stop demanding that you have everything figured out.
Pisces reminds us that there are parts of life we cannot organize into submission.
There are endings we cannot negotiate, answers that arrive only after we've stopped forcing them, things we understand emotionally long before we can explain them logically, + there are chapters that don't need one more revision.
They JUST need to end. Finally.
The beautiful thing about this eclipse happening during Virgo Season is that we get both sides of the lesson.
Virgo teaches us discernment.
Pisces teaches us surrender.
Virgo says, "Tend to what is yours."
Pisces says, "Release what isn't."
And somewhere between those two messages is the sweet spot.
You don't have to become less sensitive.
You don't have to stop caring.
You don't have to harden yourself to protect your peace.
You just have to become more discerning about where your energy goes.
So as this eclipse unfolds, ask yourself:
What would become possible if I stopped carrying what was never mine?
This is a full moon for endings, but endings aren't always something to fear.
Sometimes an ending is the moment you finally put something down + sometimes that’s the most spiritual thing you can do.
MUAH MUAH MUAH!!!
