Why Woowoo Besties Bury Manifestations

If you’ve been around a while, watching my spiritual reels and tips, you’ve probably heard me suggest burying a written manifestation in the dirt for it to bloom among the plants around it. I typically like to recommend this during moons in earth signs or around the spring equinox when dreams are stretching tired limbs and readying themselves to bloom.

Of all the things spiritual people do, this one might be one of the easiest to side-eye… along with lugging out moon water or charging crystals. Everything else you can do in the comfort in your own home!

Writing down a manifestation, folding up the paper (toward yourself if you’re calling it in, away from you if it’s a manifestation to release), + burying it in the soil can sound a QUITE strange if you've never encountered it before.

But once you understand the symbolism behind it, it actually follows one of humanity's oldest and most intuitive lessons about growth. + doesn’t that always seem to be the case? When it comes to these spiritual traditions, rituals practices, whatever, they seem weird af to the average person. But after a bit of explanation (+ simple elaboration of the meaning behind intention and mindfulness that SHOULD go into all of our daily habits), it starts to sound a little less crazy + a little more whimsical + grounded.

The History Behind Burying Intentions

Loooong before vision boards + manifestation journals existed, humans looked to nature for guidance.

Ancient agricultural societies built entire ways of life around the rhythms of planting, growing, harvesting, + renewal. They understood something that is still true today: growth often begins where you can't see it.

A seed is buried before it sprouts.

A bulb disappears underground before it flowers.

Roots develop beneath the surface long before any visible growth appears above ground.

+ that’s on winter vibes.

+ though YOU (the person reading this) already knows this information, I feel like many other parts of the population are picking up on this too: they’re leaning into rest in the winter, making their resolutions around the spring equinox, + leaning into “hustle” in the summer.

Because of this, many cultures + spiritual traditions developed rituals involving the earth. Prayers, wishes, offerings, + written intentions were often buried, planted, or placed in the ground as symbolic acts of trust, surrender, + partnership with nature.

Not everything needs to be visible to be growing.

+ how freaking beautiful is that? Settle on it for a moment. They saw that the earth knew what it was doing; without fail the flowers would come after the frost + the sun would come after the darkness of winter. So humans said, “Alright earth it seems like you know what you’re doing, let me leave this hope + dream in your wise hands.”

Why Woowoo Babes Still Do It Today

Today, many spiritual babes bury manifestation notes as a symbolic way of planting an intention.

The act itself serves as a reminder that growth. takes. time.

Instead of obsessing over every detail or constantly checking for results, the ritual encourages patience + invites you to release control + trust that what you've set in motion can continue developing, even when you cannot yet see evidence of it.

Read that again.

In many ways, it's less about the paper + more about the intentionality.

You acknowledge what you desire, you plant it, then you allow space for life, timing, opportunity, + your own actions (OF COURSE) to help it grow.

The Psychology Behind the Practice

Even outside of spirituality, rituals help create meaning.

Writing something down increases clarity. Physically placing it in the earth creates a memorable action that signals commitment. The ritual becomes a marker that says, "I've made my intention known. Now I can stop gripping so tightly."

There’s a LOT of magic in tangibly bringing what is in the mind into the physical world.

Rather than repeatedly questioning whether something will happen, you're creating a moment of closure + trust.

Try It!

The next time you have a goal, dream, or intention you'd like to focus on:

  1. write it down on a small piece of paper.

  2. fold it up and place it beneath a plant, in a garden, or anywhere that feels meaningful to you. If you’re a pro, plant it next to something relevant: near basil for abundance, near rose to call in love, near echinacea for health.

  3. as you cover it with soil, imagine yourself planting a seed. Not because the universe needs the paper, but because your mind needs the symbol.

  4. then let it go. Personally, I like to plant intentions around the time that I plant any herbs or flowers because THEIR growth reminds me of the growth of the intention planted beside them.

+ listen to me here: planting an intention or a manifestation does NOT mean it’s going to magically happen. When manifesting, your actions, personal growth, accepting of opportunities, releasing timelines, etc. are all imperative to letting that dream grow.

+ if you want to know why I’m so passionate about this when it comes to manifestation, it’s because of this.

Sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is stop digging up what you've already planted.

Have fun, babes!

Love,

Suzy
