Every year around August 8, my social media feeds explode with people talking about the Lion's Gate Portal.
Some people treat it like the biggest manifestation day of the year. Others dismiss it completely.
Personally?
I think it's one of the most beautiful symbolic moments of the year, not because I believe the universe suddenly starts listening on August 8, but because it gives us an intentional opportunity to pause, reconnect with ourselves, + ask whether we're actually becoming the person we're trying to manifest.

One of my favorite things about spirituality is learning where traditions actually come from, + Lion's Gate is a perfect example of how ancient history + modern spiritual practice can intertwine.
Despite what you may see online, the Lion's Gate Portal isn't an ancient Egyptian holiday or ceremony that has been celebrated exactly as we know it today. Instead, it's a modern spiritual observance inspired by several meaningful traditions.
The biggest piece of the puzzle is Sirius, often called the Dog Star. Sirius is the brightest star visible from Earth + has captivated civilizations for thousands of years.
Each summer, Sirius disappears below the horizon for a period before making its heliacal rising, which is the first visible appearance of the star just before sunrise.
To the Ancient Egyptians, this wasn't just an astronomical event. It marked the annual flooding of the Nile River, bringing fertile soil, successful harvests, + the renewal of life itself (YAY!). Sirius became associated with abundance, fertility, prosperity, divine timing, + new beginnings. The star was personified as the goddess Sopdet + served as a celestial marker for one of the most important events of the year.
Modern astrology adds another layer.
At this same time, the Sun is moving through Leo, the zodiac sign ruled by the Sun itself. Leo represents courage, visibility, creativity, leadership, generosity, + heart centered living. It's no surprise that modern spiritual communities eventually combined the symbolism of Sirius, Leo season, + the numerology of 8/8 into what we now call the Lion's Gate Portal.
